Recently the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland, announced a $1M marketing package to support North Queensland following the recent Monsoon. Of this $1M, Tourism Whitsundays will receive $250K to run a Whitsunday Coast campaign in an effort to drive volume to the Whitsundays over the coming months. This campaign will be executed in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and will feature a consumer campaign with My Queensland, an outside broadcast with a morning Show as well as another publicity activation. The outside broadcast will be based in Airlie Beach and we will have weather crosses from Bowen. As soon as dates are confirmed we will share throughout our networks and Bowen Tourism and Business networks.
Last week, there were a couple of famils in region. We hosted Leisa Scott from news.com who was writing for QWeekend on the opening of Daydream Island Resort as well as new accommodation and things to do in Airlie Beach. Also last week, Digital Influencers Phil and Alanna Warring headed up to Bowen and out to Camp Island to experience and share throughout their social influencer network all about the top of the Whitsundays and Camp Island. This initiative was led by Tourism and Events Queensland and was great to see a showcase of the diverse island experiences you can enjoy in the Whitsunday Region!
This month’s Tourism Whitsundays Networking Night will be held on 28 March at the Proserpine Museum in partnership with Subway Proserpine and the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce. If you would like to attend, please contact the team on 07 4948 5900. We look forward to seeing many of our members and partners at the networking night!
Congratulations to the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce who hosted their first cruise ship tour in the town centre of Proserpine last week. This is a great example of what working together in partnership can achieve. We hope to see more opportunities like this come to fruition over the coming months. The cruise ship market is a different business to many other tourism opportunities, however Tourism Whitsundays is happy to help facilitate introductions to the right people within the cruise market.
Last year Tourism Whitsundays added Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) membership to our member benefits. A number of members have now participated in some of the opportunities that come with the QTIC membership including the Mature Aged Program. Community Solutions jumped at the opportunity to take part in the program and help bridge the gap between mature aged job seekers and employment opportunities with the likes of BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort, Accor Club Croc and Cumberland Charter Yachts. The program aims to promote inclusiveness in the workforce; identify and secure employment, training, and lifelong learning and volunteering opportunities for people aged 55 years and over within the tourism and hospitality industry; address the current jobs and skills in demand by promoting the benefits of integrating seniors in the workforce, and promote inter-generational problem solving and increase the connection between older and younger staff members.
QTIC have been instrumental in bringing successful programs like this into the Whitsunday region, and we are very proud to offer this to our members. Brett Kapernick, Deputy CEO of QTIC will be coming into region on Thursday 28 March and presenting to members of Tourism Whitsundays at the networking function held at the Proserpine Historical Museum; don’t miss out on this opportunity to hear from him and get an update of all the upcoming works of QTIC and how you can get involved.
The Great Barrier Reef forum that was postponed last month due to the monsoon has been rescheduled to 26 March. We would love to see as many operators attend as possible – this is not just for tour operators but accommodation, restaurants, retail and services. Let’s all sing the same GBR song!
