|In Review |Congratulations to Whitsunday Regional Council on the Whitsunday Festival of Motoring, it was great to see another event that showcased our beautiful surrounds and was enjoyed right across the Whitsunday Region.
This week kicks off our Whitsunday East Coast Roadshow, Donna our Marketing Manager along with 20 industry partners hit the road along the east coast to promote the Whitsundays. The Roadshow is a great platform for educating the travel trade network on all the available product and experiences we have in the Whitsundays region.
We have launched the Youth Cluster Marketing Committee nomination process, members of Tourism Whitsundays who work in the youth market can nominate to join this marketing committee. The aim is to develop a strategy for marketing the Whitsunday Region collectively.
At the last meeting of the Board, we discussed the importance of our industry collectively sharing and engaging in positive reef messaging on social media. We need to band together and share each day the beautiful images we are capturing and importantly, engage positively with any negative posts or comments. The Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsundays is still very beautiful! Don’t forget to hashtag #lovewhitsundays, #thisisqueensland and #seeaustralia.
The Whitsunday Tourism Awards planning is now under way and we hope many of our industry are nominating to be a part of the process. Nominations are open for any member to enter the Whitsunday Tourism Awards. The event will be held on Saturday 26 October at a venue yet to be announced. This year we are very excited to have streamlined the submission process, thanks to QTIC for opening the Queensland portal to the Whitsundays. This means for anyone wanting to enter the Whitsunday awards you can use the same nomination to enter Queensland – twice the opportunity for one entry. Don’t miss out, Queensland nominations through QTIC close on 31 May and the Whitsundays nominations close 14 June. Nominating is step 1, and then you have a few months to complete the submission. Please click here to enter.
Last week the 2019/20 Membership Renewals were distributed. The team have implemented a new system for this process in the hopes of streamlining it for you and reducing our paper use. You can confirm your membership electronically via the renewal email. If you didn’t receive your email or want to discuss membership, please email the membership team – we hope that this process makes it easier for everyone.
On Monday, the $1M Whitsunday Islands Campaign went live! This is a cooperative joint funding activity between TW, Hamilton Island, Daydream Island, InterContinental Hayman Island, Cruise Whitsundays and Tourism and Events Queensland. The campaign involves a direct to consumer tactical element, out of home advertising in key domestic markets, regional activity as well as publicity. We have no doubt that with celebrating the opening of the Whitsunday Islands this will translate to increase in visitation across the Whitsunday region. Here’s to this activity helping to turn things around for the better for the Whitsunday Region tourism industry!
Stemming from Terry Kemp’s appointment as a Master Reef Guide, Cumberland Charter Yachts are putting together the inaugural Whitsunday Reef and Island Symposium, to be held at Lure, Abell Point on the 29th May. The objective is to educate and enhance people’s knowledge about the health of the reef and national parks and how people can play a part in protecting our tourism assets so they become ambassadors with up to date information from experts in their field and impart that knowledge to tourists from a positive perspective. Tickets available click here.
The $6.3 million Airlie Beach Foreshore Revitalisation is in the final stages of construction and is expected to be completed mid-2019, weather permitting. The Airlie Beach Foreshore project has been funded through the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions fund and the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA). The exciting new 10.5 metre-high playground opened to all on Friday 19 April, just in time to celebrate the Easter long weekend. Children of all ages lined up to go on the climbing dome net, rope skywalk and three huge slides for the first time.
