WOW what a fantastic week for the Whitsunday Region!
Firstly, Daydream Island Resort opened on Monday with 277 rooms and many of these already full for the holidays. Some of our team were lucky enough to head over and check out the new Resort which includes a world class Living Reef with an underwater observatory, area to snorkel, and a reef education centre! There are three restaurants at the North end of the resort and one boasting a teppanyaki area. Congratulations to all the Daydream Island Resort team on the enormous effort on opening this week and generating significant global publicity for the Whitsundays!
Also opening this week, ‘The Pub’, Airlie Beach Hotel’s newly refurbished restaurant [old Capers] opened on the Esplanade right in time for Easter! This is great news for the Whitsundays, and it looks fantastic. A big congratulations to Mick and the team at ABH for their investment and commitment to the Whitsundays!
Last week was a fantastic networking night where the 2019 Airlie Beach Race Week launched. It’s going to be another fantastic event this year with more spectator events than ever. Thanks to all TW’s members for coming along to networking.
The week before last TW held a Youth Cluster Marketing Meeting to talk about what can be done now to cooperatively market the Whitsundays to the youth market globally. Soon the team will be calling for nominations for the ‘Youth Cluster Committee’ who will work together to drive cooperative marketing initiatives for the youth market.
You can now get a good look at the Underwater Sculptures that are going into the Whitsunday Marine Park as they are on display at the Big Mango. Check these beauties out before they ‘go under’, then you will be able to snorkel around them! They really are fantastic.
Last week Tourism Whitsundays in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland hosted the TODAY Show in Airlie Beach to promote all the wonders of the Whitsunday Coast. This was a fantastic segment with beautiful weather to showcase to Australian’s how beautiful the Whitsundays really is and encourage them to book a holiday here. This week we have two more outside broadcasts with Stevie from the TODAY Show doing a weather cross in Bowen on Thursday and then Long Island on Friday.
On behalf of all the team at Tourism Whitsundays, we hope that this Easter brings some much needed bookings throughout the region from tours to accommodation and of course our wonderful restaurants and retail stores! It’s Daydream Island Resort and Airlie Beach Hotel this week opening, and next month it will be the Airlie Beach Foreshore closely followed by the Whitsunday Coast Airport and then of course InterContinental Hayman Island! It’s an exciting time ahead for the whole region.
